Classic Beef Lasagna

A traditional lasagna recipe layered with rich beef sauce, creamy béchamel, and lasagna sheets. Perfect for a comforting dinner.

Ingredients

250 g Ground beef
6 whole Lasagna sheets
1 medium Onion
2 clove Garlic
1 medium Carrot
1 stalk Celery stalk
400 g Canned chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp Tomato paste
2 tbsp Olive oil
1 tsp Dried oregano
1 tsp Dried basil
1 tsp Salt
½ tsp Black pepper
30 g Butter
30 g Plain flour
300 ml Milk
50 g Parmesan cheese
100 g Mozzarella cheese

Preparation Steps

  1. 1.Finely chop the onion and garlic.
  2. 2.Grate the carrot.
  3. 3.Finely chop the celery stalk.
  4. 4.Grate the mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  5. 5.Measure out 300ml milk, 30g butter, and 30g flour for making béchamel sauce.
  6. 6.Prepare lasagna sheets based on package instructions if pre-cooking is needed.

Instructions

  1. 1.Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
  2. 2.Add grated carrot and chopped celery to the pan, cook for 3-4 minutes.
  3. 3.Increase heat slightly and add the ground beef; stir and cook until browned.
  4. 4.Stir in the tomato paste, canned tomatoes, dried oregano, and basil. Season with salt and black pepper. Lower the heat and let simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. 5.In a separate saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Gradually stir in flour to form a paste.
  6. 6.Slowly add milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and mix in grated parmesan cheese.
  7. 7.Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  8. 8.Spread a thin layer of beef sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Place lasagna sheets on top.
  9. 9.Cover sheets with a layer of béchamel sauce followed by a layer of beef sauce. Sprinkle grated mozzarella cheese over the top.
  10. 10.Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of béchamel and mozzarella.
  11. 11.Bake the lasagna in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  12. 12.Allow lasagna to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
